Penelope the Pirate Princess and the Empowered Readers Literacy Project are collaborating to inspire diversity in literacy.

In celebration of Black History Month and Women’s History Month we are collecting children's books with Black lead characters (in February) and Female lead characters (in March) to fill up little free libraries that will be donated to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Chris 180 and Cool Girls!

Come out to one of the participating Farmers Markets and donate your gently used, diverse children’s books at the Empowered Readers booth today. If you do not have any diverse books, you can purchase a copy of Penelope the Pirate Princess written by the founder of the Empowered Readers Literacy Project (9-year-old Selah Thompson) and donate it on site.

Can't make it to one of our markets? No worries. You can purchase a copy of Penelope the Pirate Princess to donate online today and even write a special holiday note for the child who will receive the book.
